I was born and mostly raised in The Queen City (Manchester, New Hampshire), where I lived in Friendship, Indiana for fourteen months between the ages of nine and eleven. I'd like to get into my childhood stories, but I'm saving that for an autobiography or similar work of retelling my youth.
I never really did well in school. After I hit middle school, I was pretty much a failure. I failed many classes, and didn't graduate high school until I was twenty-four years of age. At that point, I went for my GED and started College at the same time. I was majoring in Communications (Radio and Video Production/Broadcasting). Unfortunately, that fell apart as well due to an appeal issue from being sick for nearly a month.
I've known Todd Lajoie ever since I was about twelve years old, where his grandmother lived below my apartment when we moved back from Indiana. He used to be quite the hate-ridden kid who took out all of his negative energy on video games, which then led later on to filmmaking. He found his "happy place" in Film, and that inspired me to get into film as well. I've always loved video cameras. When I was fifteen, I used to borrow a friend's video camcorder (the old 8mm) and play with special effects and telephoto; We'd make shorts, and even had our own "XBW" wrestling show at one point. I fell out of film for a while and when I was about twenty-two, Todd was filming Urban Ninja 2: Ninja On The Rox, and needed me to be a stand-in actor for his classmate who never showed up, so I became Apprentice Number 3. I was interested on how the film editing process was done, and he was unsure at the time, because he was one to work alone. Eventually, I worked him down and I sat with him for most of the editing process, even throwing in a few ideas myself. This was the turning point that defined what I want to do with the rest of my life. I wanted to be in film and ever since, Todd had me by his side during the editing process. He said to me one time, "Steve, its a bit weird not having you sit next to me, pitching ideas. I like having you by my side". I don't remember what film he/we did that I wasn't there to help edit.
Here we are, years later, biding our time until we fine-tune our filmmaking abilities. We are getting there, by the fact that our most recent short, Innocence, has been submitted and screened at the Fifth Annual New Hampshire Film Expo.
